Response

Anonymous said ", but you guys actually out-foxed the Horizons intrusion detection systems and managed to come out with some damn unique coverage". Thank you for that, BUT that's the glory of it all. There was NO security in that ride what so ever. Nothing. As far as I know it was the only Disney attraction ever built that way. I hope Chief chimes in on this one:)

  2. yeah, we were both totally amazed after all our trial rides, doing our little tests, etc... to discover the uter lack of intrusion mats, cameras, infra-red beams, etc... i understand that behind the scenes they dont need all this stuff, because the only folks that should be back there is maintenance or operations hosts, but on the sets? but hey, im certainly not complaining, horizons became the ultimate playground for us, and we enjoyed every minute of it. :)

  4. Ok - but what about being seen by other guests?? Did you dress in pastel jumpsuits and blend in to the "cast" when anyone passed by?

And then there is that other unthinkable act -- staying overnight...! I'm really looking forward to hearing more stories and seeing your pics.

  5. no, we were never in a scene as guests went by. all of our 'in scene' shots and exploring were done via well timed 'gaps' where there were no guests in the 'cars', you see the cars were numbered and we would wait in the entrance area for a long period of time between when we saw the last person get on and the next group of guests coming up to the building. then we would quickly get on the ride, jump off around the first corner and run ahead, close to where the last guest we saw get on, then we could jump onto 'the set/scene' take all the pictures we wanted, while one of us was watching the car numbers go by to judge how much time we had before we needed to jump back on. this was always fun and exciting because we were always nervous that we were gonna miss our original car going by, but over time we became very good at this. and i know this is going to sound selfish, but the most frustrating part was when there were alot of people riding and we couldnt get a decent gap.

then eventually when we had gotten most of the shots we wanted from the front of the scenes, we only needed a small gap to be able to jump off and stay behind the scenes and explore. but the hard part then was watching from a hiding place where we could see the cars, and finding a gap where we could jump back on to get out of the ride. :)

and no, we never stayed overnight. i believe we thought about it once or twice, but a nitetime is when maintenance happens, and that is not the time to be hiding behind the scenes when all the lights are on with maintenance folks walking around. :)

  6. let me rephrase my first sentence just a little, "we were never blatantly visible in a scene as guests when by." :)

there were a couple times i remember when we were kinda in the scene, yet 'hidden'. and that was always fun because we were kinda stuck until we could notice a gap where we could get out. one that im sure Hoot remembers was being stuck in the 'undersea' area. :)

  9. This is amazing. "Bad Show", but since it no longer exists, it doesn't bother me. I wish someone had done this for If You Had Wings. Widen Your World is close, though.

  10. From an ex-Horizons employee, there was absolutely no security save for the load & unload "garage door" clickers on our belts.
