A Couple YouTube Videos

Here are a couple of our videos that have actually been on YouTube for awhile now. Like I mentioned in an earlier comment, I actually have video (shot from my camera) of Hoot setting up to film these two videos you are seeing here.

  1. I saw that first one somewhere else a few weeks back before your blog started and wondered how someone got that shot. I figured it had to be some sort of security camera or a disney sanctioned shot.

Great stuff guys, keep bringin' it.

  2. The first one is shot from a hole in the set, that we reached from underneath. That was the same way we got decent shots of the projections onto the 4 fake computer monitor/screens in the farm control booth (whatever you want to call it). It was fun crawling around under there, except for the fact we usually got pretty dirty.

We always thought it was funny when we would come out of the ride and our knees would just be covered in dirt and we would be all sweaty and stuff, but never a word or strange look from the cast member at unload. :)

  3. I love your videos! They capture little slices of the different scenes: like a nice sunny day in the loranges orchard. :)

I was wondering if anyone knows what the white object is moving across the loranges scene backdrop. Is it actually part of the scene or a reflection off of a prop or ride vehicle. Perhaps you guys actually captured on film a UFO inside Horizons!!

  4. It was a slide projection of a harvester air ship. It was out of focus almost all the time:)

  5. That effect wouldn't by chance have used a "Walt Disney Oscillating Mirror/Floor Stand Assembly" would it?? I remember one being for sale on eBay a while back and it was tagged for "Hovercraft". It was basically a mirror that was able to turn from side to side using an attached motor.

  6. Yep same thing. It's also used in the EPCOT model on the WedWay People Mover. It has a jet flying across the background.

  7. Thanks Anonymous! I remember that effect from when the Progress City model was still at Disneyland!! :) The plane flying across the sky was actually written into the script when the grandparents' jet took off.

Another place I think Disney probably used the oscillating mirror (though it was probably spinning) was for the scene in Adventure Thru Inner Space where the electrons are "flying" past the ride vehicles. It was very cool.

I hope this blog has more photos of the effects used in Horizons. I really liked the lighting in the Omnisphere tunnels.

  11. i wishh i could see these. i just came across this blog because I'm reading the dark side of disney. This blog is amazing, even though i dont remember riding horizons my dad sears i did at some point and i have had fun reading the posts so far. Even though i can't remember being on it, it is still quintessential disney ride standards that make this blog really interesting.

  13. Is there a mirror for these? I'm just discovering this site, but I miss Horizons and World of Motion. The old rides were the best.

  14. I just found this blog due to the new tribute video that was posted on facebook. It's a shame these videos are no longer available. I was at Disney in early January 1999. It was my first time visiting EPCOT. I vaguely remember riding Horizons. I may have been on the ride at the same time as Hoot and Chief.
