Friday night was great!

Friday night at TASTE was amazingly fun! We met some kick ass "Last of the Cool People" like Eric_W and Joe. Hadley's Hope rocked as always and we all drank too much. Kyle and I, even though I was pretty smashed, did a duet of "If We Can Dream It...". (Above)

I had a pocketful of gifts, actual film strips of the Red Head girl, that Chief and I handed out.

More pics soon:)

The Death of EPCOT Center

Here's an excellent observation from Mesa Verde Times member and chief of all future living religious matters Bishop Kyle.

" I have always wondered at what time WDI 'jumped the shark' and ruined what was the mighty EPCOT Center. Here is written proof, published by Disney, that by the late 80's they were done trying to expand peoples
minds and make them think. The paragraph speaks for itself. Unreal. ("Since the World Began: Walt Disney World")

Pieces of Horizons history like this make it all worth it. Enjoy this small bit I can give to you for all you gave to me."

Kyle

I've never been a fan of that book or it's author. I think it's a dismal piece of shit. -Hoot

Hoot loses his mind

Hi folks. Before I lose my mind let me welcome all 202 of you to Mesa Verde Times. I hope the people who are new here get a kick out of it and if you have any questions feel free to write to us at mesaverdetimes@gmail.com. To our old pals, there's more to come so stay tuned.

Ok. Time to blow my stack. Remember how I said we'd be posting news articles from 1983 regarding our beloved Horizons? I was digging through our archives today and found this gem.

This article is from the Orlando Sentinel, Oct. 1st 1983 and whatever hack ass wrote it wasn't credited. We already know that Horizons wasn't a "smash" hit when it opened but this clown thinks he's Mr Funny and tries to poke fun at it only to say nice things at the end. A futile attempt at saving his job as King Douche Bag Intern at the Sentinel.

First he fucks up by assuming that GE developed the attraction. "Few visionaries work for corporations". Walt Disney was a visionary you ass clown and he nor his staff worked for GE.

"offers little that is startling" ....REALLY?? I suppose this shit-hook flew to the Sentinel building in his Hover Lift. He even goes as far as to say that if you saw Star Wars you'd have no need for this attraction.

After this initial bashing he comes to his senses and unknowingly writes about the things he was impressed by. You see, he tried to come at Horizons like "Mr Funny of all cynics" but found himself unable to be anything but amazed after all. Here's the rest:

I believe that this shit head was "born again" 1/4 of the way through writing the article! He tried to be negative but the Horizons experience got the better of him! AND then, and then and THEN, at the end he prays for a hopeful tomorrow! He's glad that Horizons didn't show the horrors of future living. My hate for this slime-slit has turned to love because I know that in this ONE article that he ghost wrote in his very short career as a writer, he found himself.

More to come if we can all stomach it.

Spam

I guess we've reached the point where our blog is popular enough to attract spammers from all corners of the globe! That's really saying something for sure.

I'll try to do a better job of deleting these comments even though I like it when Chinese people tell us that God loves us. I'm not into the selling of handbags as much.

Just don't click on anything Chinese and you'll be fine.

Even The Robots See It

In honor of us reaching 200 followers, here is a new video! heh

Anyways, in the beginning of this shot you get to see Hoot setting up to record Grove Shot 2. And then you get to see me (well, you dont really get to 'see' me, but you know what I mean) crawling around underneath our favorite spot, the grove, in order to get to the control tower monitors. I think this shot is pretty neat because it gives you a feel for what it was like crawling around under there. And by the end of this video, you should have the control tower dialog memorized! :) Enjoy!

p.s. And for those that might have missed our earlier post on it, here is an easy link to one of the other monitors shot from Hoots camera.

Mesa Verde Control Booth

Look at these two crappy shots! They were all I had when Horizons closed and, like I've said before, who would want to go on living if this was the only record of this scene? Not me.

The girl however looks better in these older shots for some reason.

Hmmm.

In the future we will have no need for Plasma, LCD, or HD. Mankind will actually revert back to TV tube technology. It's true. The Orion Company will lead the global market and produce these monitors from corn based plastics.

SEE! Here are three of the four Orion computers at work in the control booth. Sell your Apple stock NOW! Box up your HD flat and mail it to Hoot and Chief at once! I'm serious because in 2083 you're going to look very uncool:(

They have printers in the future too. They got tired of not having a hard copy of images so a printer rebirth began.
Seriously though, here I go again praising the level of detail in this attraction. Simply amazing.

"Average Front Range 4200. Moderate Temp".

I loved Horizons.

Cool Buses

Here is another clip from the Chief cam. We are behind the Mesa Verde Grove once again, and I film the awesome backdrop painting with its 'Cool Buses', heh! In this one I have the camera light on a bit more, so you get a somewhat better look at the space underneath and behind the grove. Yet you get to hear me bitching again about how the light eats up the rear battery on my camera so fast. I catch Hoot in the act of setting up his camera to capture our first cool 'In The Grove' shot we posted about last year.

Then I get some video of the awesome 'Orange Machine', hehe. And I had seen the name on the side of the thing probably a dozen times or more by this point, you would think I could remember its proper name. :)

Then I get a shot of the Nova Cite backdrop painting and test our spy area that we would use sometimes to look for empty cars. And at the end of me filming that you get to see Hoot setting up his camera to film that same spot, which we posted footage of last year as well. Enjoy!

Sunnycide!

Hey, folks! Remember my dear Sunnycide Gibson? Well, she was inspired by Farming of the Future (not the horrible shit in "Food Inc") and has decided to teach us all about Organic Future Farming. I really like this because all along I thought she wasn't paying attention while riding Horizons.....but yes! She made great points like "The Future Farm is family run! It's not a huge corporate mess!" She's right.

She just started this blog last night so give it time.

So far I've only seen fan art here. Sunnycide is going to put actual Horizons ideals to use. She'll match the Nova Cite garden porch I guarantee it.

Follow her blog. Trust me.

Triangular Dead Space

Ok, so this clip here was shot by yours truly on the day we did our first extended stay. It starts off in the little hiding place that we have talked about before in earlier posts. We are waiting in here, calculating the time that the car we were riding in would reach unload, to see if any alarms would go off since it would be empty!! :) Heh, but of course nothing of the sort happened.

Then we have a couple shots from the space catwalk, undersea catwalk, and then behind the mesa verde grove. And as I watch these again, I hate the fact that its so dark, I really wish there was a way to see it exactly how we saw it when our eyes adjusted to the dark. :( At one point behind the grove you can see me turn my camera light on for a few seconds. But unfortunately I didnt leave it on for very long, 1. because it burned thru my battery real quick, and 2. I was scared someone would see us for sure if we were walking around with a spotlight on. While I am looking thru one of the holes that Hoot gets one of our cool harvester shots from (that we have shown in earlier posts) you can hear the ride stop speil, then you can here us talking about finding a hiding spot, we were always certain that the ride was stopping because of us. :)

Then when our stay is done, we find a gap, and get back to the front of the cars and follow our gap out like the good old days. At one point at the kitchen, I turn around and shine my light at the cave again, then I run up the stairs to no where behind the daughters computer room. It might be kinda hard to tell here, but we are very excited because it appears that our mission was a success, although we still have to exit the ride. And by mission I mean our plan to see if we could indeed stay in the ride for hours and not get caught. Because if this worked, then this opened up a whole new realm of possibilities, no longer would we be restricted by how large our gap was. You can hear me (right after Hoot gets his monkeyshine on with the octopus) talking about what a 'fun ass fuckin day' it was, then in space you can hear my schoolboy excitement again talking about 'we were up there man', meaning when we were up on the catwalk above space. Then right after that we point out where Hoot almost died on an earlier trip, which we posted about before.

Then we finally come around to unload, we are nervous but excited. We tell ourselves to just be confident and walk out like normal. Then you can see our relief and hear Hoot proclaim '4 goddamn hours later', hehe, damn it was awesome, mission success! Then I love it right at the end of this clip, you can hear Hoot asking me if we want to ride again. Heh, we could never get enough, we were just in there for 4 hours, and we are still thinking we can get one more ride-thru before future world closes! Enjoy!

20,000 Leagues Under the Gun -part two

When we last left our brave heroes they were in a jam! Forced to take refuge behind a rock, in which a blinking octopus stood guard, Hoot and Chief waited.....

The hiding space wasn't very big and didn't provide a much needed view of the oncoming ride vehicles.

Hoot took a peek.

No empty cars!

Just then the unthinkable happened. The ride stopped running!

They waited......

They could hear some little kid talking to his dad.

Just then the little cuss saw something...

The kid actually spotted Hoot!

Hoot pulled himself in tighter. This must have been the longest breakdown in history. Minutes turned into tens of minutes. There was simply no way out.

Eventually hunger set in and poor Chief, with no "Hot Pockets" on hand, snapped.

Human beings stand little chance of surviving under these conditions.

Hoot started to look mighty tasty! Chief was going for the breast meat. (he doesn't like chicken on the bone)

Suddenly the ride started up again!

It was time to get out of there.

Chances were slim that they'd get an empty car without being seen.

Success!

We're back! Cool stuff on the way!

Hi, Horizons Fans!

The economy finally hit me but I'm happy to say I have a brand new boring job to replace my old boring job! Now that the "real life" shit is over we can get back to having fun on MVT.

To kick us back into gear I'd Like to introduce an awesome blog/podcast. Dave's Disney View.

I had the pleasure of being interviewed on the fourth installment of Dave's INCREDIBLE podcast series on Horizons. Give that link up there a click and listen to me run my mouth! I damn near sound like I know what I'm talking about!

I'm scanning the last few pages of "20,000 Leagues Under The Gun". Should be ready later today for your reading pleasure.

PS. Chief posted a new video on our Youtube channel. It'll show up here soon and Chief will give you a description of what's going on in the footage.

Ok

One year has passed. It's incredible.

We have had Google ads on this blog all along in hopes that someday we'd be able to buy the Horizons ride vehicle at Mouse Surplus. So here's the update:

So far we've made $41.20. That means we only have to make $9957.80 to buy our vehicle! Thank God Mouse Surplus dropped the price from $14,000 to $9,999,00.

It'll be ours soon!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MVT!

Aw ya shouldn't have!

We'll, folks, I was so busy screwing around with the comic that I didn't realize we hit our one year mark on Monday! Wow! It's been an awesome year and this blog's been nothing but fun for Chief and I. The things we've learned, the people we've met...........simply awesome.

We have a LONG way to go so get ready for another year of Horizons fun!
