Birthday Background

The birthday scene actually had a background painting behind it. It was almost impossible to see because of the Holograms and show lighting inside of the room but it was there. Another fine example of the detail in Horizons. In order to see it you would have had to climb on top of the Birthday set, as we did. You can see the window frames of the room as they come up and simply end.

Another shot. You can see a little bit of the Birthday room in the lower right corner.

Sweet detail....sweet sweet detail! Look at the little houses! The farm! The red thingys! I'm starting to change my opinion on where in Horizons I would live. This Space Colony painting looks very inviting.

  1. That is just insane...

I wonder if Shim Yokoyama worked on that painting, too.

  2. We don't know. In fact we know very little about who worked on this attraction. We know of George McGinnus (sic?) and Tom Fitzgerald from local lore. The grape vine tells us that George doesn't care much for us and his daughter HATES us. That's cool because everybody has an opinion about what we did good or bad. Of course those who hate us will be doomed to an eternal life of riding "Mission Space".

To the haters. HOW did we do anything wrong? We loved this attraction so much that we risked our LIVES to preserve it the best way we knew how! We were so into it that we wanted to keep the details alive forever!!!!!!!!!! Is that "bad"..??

If you worked on it (or your dad was the GOD of it) you should thank us not hate us!

Good jumpin' shit! The world's gone mad. At this rate none of us will ever have a "Laser Chef".

  3. Really? How sad!

I could understand the hatin' if you guys were vandalizing the attraction and ruining the experience for other guests, but, like I mentioned in my comment a couple of posts down, it's a testament to the obsessive quality and their eye for detail that most would probably never notice or get to see if it weren't for you guys. It just proves the genius of McGinnis and the other Imagineers... you'd think they'd be proud to see their work on display so close-up (and that a couple of fans would be so into it to want to document it).

This post is a perfect example of that... I must have ridden Horizons over a hundred times and never noticed that background!

Anyhoo... keep it up! I'm lovin' it.

  4. Wait... so is that painting what I'm seeing at the beginning of this clip, just with the flash?

I hear them singing 'Happy Birthday' in the background, so I'm assuming so...

  10. To hell with the haters, you guys rock and we love you for it. I also need a series of hidden murals in my home someday. I'll invite you guys over to climb over everything and find them. It will be a jolly-good time.

  12. i think i can see a hidden mickey with the three domes at the topmost right of the middle picture...anyone else see that?

  13. Joe, no. Even if it were, "hidden Mickey's" are the enemy of creativity.

If you want to be cool you should search for "hidden Piggies"! They're all over the Magic Kingdom! There was a piggy movement a few years ago and they greatly outnumber Mickey.

Don't believe me? Call my bluff:)

  15. Thanks for posting these. I was obsessed with this painting and would hang out of the car to see as much of it as I could. I would definitely like living there!
